CCTTFA Executive Secretary Capt. Dieudonne Dukundane led a team from the Secretariat and stakeholders from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on a validation workshop to discuss the Inception Report for the Kalundu port-Uvira-Luberizi road (Lot 1=50km) as well as the Concept Note (CN) and Terms of Reference (TOR’s) for the Luberizi-Kamanyola-Bukavu (Lot 2=89km).

The activities planned under Lot 1 include: Feasibility Studies, detailed engineering design, environmental impact assessment, social impact assessment and development of a resettlement action plan with funding from AUDA-NEPAD.

The development of this route will substantially reduce transport costs and time along this key Central Corridor route that will in turn open up trade opportunities within DRC and with its neighbours. This is in line with Central Corridor’s member states new vision of a Corridor that connects the Indian Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean: from Dar es Salaam Port to Kigali and Bujumbura as well as to Kindu-Kisangani – Kinshasa to Banana Port through the Congo River.
