Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency (CCTTFA) and Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) organized a joint meeting with Ugandan business community in Kampala to discuss the Central Corridor as an alternative route for importers and exporters. With the theme “Optimization of multimodal services on the Central Corridor for Uganda in 2022the meeting brought together a delegation of service providers from Tanzania and Uganda, PSFU members, Uganda Ministry of Works and Transport officials and Ugandan business community at large.

The Tanzanian delegation was led by, H.E. The Tanzania High Commissioner to Uganda H.E. Dr. Aziz Ponary Mlima included Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA), Tanzania International Container Terminal Services (TICTS), Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) and Marine Services Company Limited (MSCL). The Ugandan delegation included representatives from sub-sectors like; Freight Forwarders, Manufacturers, Customs and Clearing Agents, Transporters, Consolidators, Shippers, Importers and officials from Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

   

CCTTFA was represented by Eng. Zaituni Nakonde, Head of Infrastructure who represented the Executive Secretary. On her remarks Eng. Nakonde reiterated CCTTFA’s commitment to promote and facilitate trade in Uganda through the use of the Central Corridor. “As per the theme of the meeting ‘Optimization of multimodal services of the Central Corridor’ CCTTFA is supporting interventions within member states in areas of maritime capacity building, infrastructure improvement, port operations and improvements in trade policies and customs.” said Eng. Key resolutions from the meeting include: a need for harmonization of telecommunication costs between the two countries, nomination of ICDs where empty containers can be dropped off by the importers, uniformity in the road user charges amongst all the member states,  establishment of a port charter by TPA to enhance the transparency and accountability, establishment of KPI’s by TPA especially on dwelling timelines, fast tracking the process of granting customs agents in Uganda access rights to TANCIS, and URC to design clear route schedules.
