The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport, Prof. Godius Walter Kahyarara, has visited the Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency (CCTTFA) pavilion at the ongoing 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), popularly known as Sabasaba, where he learned about the Agency’s initiatives in promoting sustainable transport, green technologies, and regional economic development.
During the visit, Prof. Kahyarara received a briefing on the Green Economic Development Corridor (GEDC) Programme, a strategic initiative championed by CCTTFA to promote sustainable economic growth, environmental conservation, and value addition within the Central Corridor Member States.
CCTTFA showcased how the GEDC Programme supports the transition towards a green economy through the development of clean industries and the value addition of strategic minerals available within the region, including lithium, copper, cobalt, graphite, silica, and phosphate. The programme seeks to create opportunities for investment, industrial development, and sustainable economic transformation.
The pavilion also highlighted various innovations contributing to greener transport systems, including the Electric Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), modern fuel-efficient aircraft, the modernization of the Port of Dar es Salaam through battery-powered cargo handling equipment, as well as electric vehicles and battery-powered trucks that demonstrate the potential of clean energy solutions in the transport sector.
Speaking during the visit, Prof. Kahyarara commended efforts to integrate green technologies into the transport sector, noting that such initiatives are important in improving efficiency, reducing environmental pollution, lowering operational costs, and supporting global efforts to address climate change.
He encouraged members of the public and stakeholders attending the trade fair to visit the CCTTFA pavilion and learn more about the Green Economic Development Corridor Programme and its contribution to sustainable transport, trade facilitation, and economic development across the Central Corridor region.
The 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair is being held at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Grounds, bringing together public and private sector institutions to showcase innovations, products, and services that contribute to economic growth and technological advancement.
CCTTFA’s participation in the fair aims to raise awareness of its mandate and strategic programmes while promoting green investment opportunities and sustainable transport solutions that support the development of a resilient and environmentally responsible Central Corridor.
