The Government of Tanzania has reviewed its health travel restrictions whereby all travelers whether returning residents, foreigners, tourists entering the country will be subject to COVID-19 screening and observe all prevention and control measures such as hand washing, wearing of masks and keeping physical distance. The mandatory 14 days quarantine for travelers upon arrival has also been removed.
Health measures relating to trucks and vehicles carrying goods and services are as follows:
- To have 2-3 crew members to facilitate smooth border crossing within the East Africa region
- Crew members have to declare their final destination at the Point of Entry (PoE) and during their journey can only stop at government designated locations.
- Crew members will be subjected to enhanced screening for COVID-19 at Points of Entry (PoE) and maybe quarantined or isolated at designated facilities in case they are suspected to have contracted the virus.
- Trucks and vehicles will be decontaminated if crew members are suspected to have contacted COVID-19.
- In case crews are quarantined or isolated while in transit, truck owners or operators must make necessary arrangements to back up their crew to ensure goods are delivered to the intended destination.
- Crew for cargo vessels, including at the inland ports, will be quarantined at designated hotels or within their vessels for the period of their stay in the country.
Following the decrease of COVID-19 reported cases the United Republic of Tanzania has decided to relax travel restrictions to gradually allow resumption of economic activities in air transport. Commercial flights, diplomatic flights, aircrafts in emergency and operations related to humanitarian aid and medical relief will be allowed to operate to and from Tanzania.
