GIZ /AUDA-NEPAD/ ALG together with CCTTFA had a visit to Rwanda first week of March 2023 on a fact-finding mission to obtain clarifications and assess the prefeasibility of the selected and prioritized projects by the Republic of Rwanda to be implemented through the CCTTFA. The aim of this visit was to support the preparation of projects with a focus on Green Climate Financing. AUDA-NEPAD in collaboration with GIZ (German Technical Cooperation Agency) are currently proposing to provide Technical Assistance and Advisory Services to CCTTFA for the preparation of bankable pipeline of green infrastructure projects which will unlock the potential for intra-regional trade within the Central Corridor Member States.
Green Infrastructure Corridors for Intra-African Trade is jointly implemented by the African Union Development Agency AUDA-NEPAD, the Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency (CCTTFA) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ), for the benefit of African countries and regional organizations under the framework of the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA).
The fact-finding team met with a number of stakeholders in Rwanda including the Ministry of Infrastructure Officials, Rwanda Transport Development Agency Officials, Private Companies involved in some of the projects as well as the Green Financing Agencies and other Development Partners like EU Delegation, AfDB among others. The team also visited some of the project sites in different parts of Rwanda to assess their state of readiness. The projects involved include; Construction of Sanitary Landfill in Kigali City, Construction of Vessels & a Slipway on Lake Kivu as well as market analysis/pre-feasibility study on use of CNG for vessels, Feasibility study of Akagera navigability, Construction of Gasabo Centralized Sewerage System, Isaka – Kigali Standard Gauge Railway and Muhanga-Mukamira Road Project.
