The Deputy Minister for Transport, Hon. David Mwakiposa Kihenzile, visited the Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency (CCTTFA) pavilion at the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), where he received a briefing on the transport sector’s contribution to environmental protection through the adoption of green technologies.
During the visit, CCTTFA showcased the Green Economic Development Corridor (GEDC) Programme, which promotes value addition to strategic minerals found within the Central Corridor Member States, including lithium, copper, cobalt, graphite, silica and phosphate. The programme aims to support clean industries and advance the region’s transition to a green economy.
The exhibition also highlighted the role of the Electric Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) in reducing carbon emissions, the use of modern fuel-efficient aircraft, and the ongoing modernization of the Port of Dar es Salaam through the deployment of battery-powered cargo handling equipment. In addition, electric vehicles and battery-powered trucks on display demonstrated the growing potential of clean transport solutions in the region.
Speaking after touring the pavilion, Hon. Kihenzile noted that investments in green technologies not only protect the environment but also create employment opportunities, add value to locally available minerals, reduce dependence on imported fuel, increase export earnings, and contribute to global efforts to address climate change.
CCTTFA continues to use the 50th DITF as a platform to promote investment opportunities in the Green Economic Development Corridor Programme and to raise awareness of sustainable transport and green economic development across the Central Corridor region.
