[15:05, 11/4/2026] Grace CCTTFA: Visit of DRC Prime Minister to Dar es Salaam Port and Kwala Dry Port.
The Executive Secretary of the Central Corridor, Adv. Flory Okandju Okonge, participated in the high-level visit of H.E. Judith Suminwa Tuluka, Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), to the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) Headquarters, Dar es Salaam Port, and Kwala Dry Port on 3 November 2026. The visit aimed to appreciate Tanzania’s investments in transport and logistics infrastructure and explore opportunities to further strengthen trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
As part of the programme, the delegation travelled by Tanzania’s Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Dar es Salaam to Kwala Dry Port, allowing H.E. Prime Minister Suminwa to experience this important infrastructure and appreciate its potential to transform regional transport connectivity. The journey also highlighted the Tripartite SGR Project connecting Tanzania, Burundi, and the DRC, whose feasibility studies are ongoing under the coordination of CCTTFA. The project is expected to establish an integrated railway network linking the three countries, facilitating cargo and passenger movement, reducing transport costs, and promoting cross-border trade and investment.
At Kwala Dry Port, a key highlight was the DRC’s dedicated 45-hectare plot within the approximately 502-hectare facility. This strategic allocation represents an important milestone in strengthening the DRC’s access to the Port of Dar es Salaam and the Central Corridor. The dedicated terminal is expected to provide essential logistics and cargo-handling facilities, improving the movement and distribution of goods to and from the DRC while enhancing the efficiency of regional supply chains.
During the visit, H.E. Prime Minister Suminwa emphasized the importance of strengthening diplomatic, economic, and trade relations between Tanzania and the DRC, noting that closer cooperation is essential for facilitating trade and accelerating economic development.
The Prime Minister was received by Tanzania’s Minister for Transport, Hon. Prof. Makame Mnyaa Mbarawa, accompanied by the Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Hon. Angellah Kairuki.
Prof. Mbarawa reaffirmed Tanzania’s commitment to improving transport infrastructure and port services to meet the growing logistics requirements of the DRC. Meanwhile, TPA Director General, Mr. Plasduce Mbossa, briefed the delegation on Dar es Salaam Port operations, cargo-handling improvements, and ongoing infrastructure investments, including the development and modernization of other strategic ports along the Central Corridor, such as Kigoma and Karema Ports, to enhance regional connectivity.
