CCTTFA and Dar es Salaam Marine Institute (DMI) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance collaboration between the 2 institutions and for students under CCTTFA sponsorship at DMI get the required learning aligned to international Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping (SCTW) for Seafarers. The signing ceremony took place at CCTTFA offices with Executive Secretary Adv. OKANDJU OKONGE Flory and the Principal of DMI Dr. Tumaini Gurumo.

CCTTFA under its Transport Policy and Planning Department has a Stakeholder Capacity Building project to support a training program for cadets, 2 from each member states to train and study at DMI. This MoU covers the second phase of the project whereby 15 cadets will be recruited and undergo a special (accelerated) program and attain the international recognized Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping certificate.

CCTTFA entered into a partnership with DMI to provide training and capacity building. The first batch of 10 students, 2 from each of the 5 CCTTFA Member States enrolled under the Program in July 2017 and will be graduating by the end of 2022 Officer-In-Charge of Navigation Watch on Ships of less than 500 GT or Officer In-Charge of an Engineering Watch on ships powered by main propulsion of less than 750Kw. Admission process for the second intake of 15 students to benefit from this scholarship program is underway and will begin their training in January 2023.
