CCTTFA Executive Secretary Dieudonne Dukundane paid a courtesy call to the Mayor of Uvira City Hon. KIZA MUHATO on his way to inspect ongoing feasibility study for the Kalundu Port – Uvira – Luberizi road (50KM) in The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He also had the opportunity to meet with local authorities, civil society and beneficiaries of the project who are grateful to CCTTFA intervention in the project.
With funding from Africa Union Development Agency (AUDA – NEPAD) the feasibility study will also entail a detailed engineering design, environmental impact assessment, social impact assessment and the resettlement action plan.
The development of this route will substantially reduce transport costs and time along this key Central Corridor route that will in turn open up trade opportunities within DRC and with its neighbours. This is in line with CCTTFA new vision of a corridor that connects the Indian ocean to the Atlantic ocean: from Dar es Salaam Port to Kigali and Bujumbura as well as to Kindu-Kisangani-Kinshasa to Banana Port through the Congo River.
