On 20, October 2023, the Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency (TTFA) represented by the Executive Secretary Adv. OKANDJU OKONGE Flory participated in the commissioning of 20 flatbed wagons to Uganda Railways Corporation (URC), rehabilitated by the Central Corridor under the Department of Infrastructure Development. The wagons have been financed by the Central Corridor Permanent Secretariat with an investment of Two hundreds eighty-eight thousand, one hundred and eighty USD (USD 288,180.47) (UGX 1.04 BILLION).
In attendance at the commissioning ceremony held at URC Headquarters in Kampala were Hon. Gen. Gatumba Wamala, Minister of Works and Transport who was also the Guest of Honour, Mr. Bageya Waiswa, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Works of Transport and CCTTFA Board Member, Mr. Charles Kareba, Chairperson Uganda Shippers Council and CCTTFA Board Member, AL-HAJJ ABDALLATIFF WANGUBO, Chairman Board of Directors URC, and Mr. Bulega Musoke Acting Managing Director Uganda Railways Corporation.
CCTTFA Executive Secretary speaking at the ceremony said “These wagons will enhance Uganda Railways Corporation’s capacity to transport our customer’s cargo, thereby increasing efficiency, reliability, competitiveness and increased volumes along the Central Corridor. This move is pivotal in making the Central Corridor the Competitive and Sustainable Trade Route of Choice for importers and exporters in Uganda.”
The Executive Secretary also reiterated CCTTFA’s continuous support for the smooth operation of the corridor. “We are committed to facilitating and coordinating the process of drafting a legal framework to guide the operations of Uganda Railways Corporation (URC), Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC), and Marine Services Company Limited (MSCL) on the Central Corridor Route within this financial year.” said Adv. OKANDJU.
