- The Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency (CCTTFA) and the Maritime Organization for Eastern, Southern, and Northern Africa (MOESNA) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC). This strategic partnership aims to strengthen cooperation and collaboration between the two organizations in the areas of shipping, maritime affairs, transport logistics, and inter-regional trade.
The MoC outlines a framework for joint initiatives and projects that will contribute to the smooth flow of goods and services along the Central Corridor and within the wider Eastern, Southern, and Northern African region. Key areas of cooperation include:
- Training, information sharing and support for shippers and other players in shipping and trade facilitation;
- Consultations with transport service providers for best transport rates and related charges and surcharges;
- Consultations with service providers on best procedures, practices and related costs of inter-regional trade operations, including import, export and transit goods;
- Advocacy for appropriate International, Community, Regional and National regulations on transport and inter-regional trade;
- Creation and maintenance of relations with other development partners, regional/sub-regional, international organizations and transport authorities through mutual projects and studies in matters beneficial to members;
- Trade facilitation endeavors especially on the implementation of African Continent Free Trade Area (AfCFTA);
- Provision of Forums for articulating issues affecting stakeholders in water and surface transport in the facilitation of movement of both domestic and transit goods;
- Undertake joint research/survey in areas of common interest;
- Joint development and present project proposals for funding and support to development partners in areas of common interest.
By combining their expertise and resources, CCTTFA and MOESNA aim to unlock the full potential of the maritime sector and contribute to the economic growth and development of the region. This partnership is expected to lead to increased trade, job creation, and improved livelihoods for communities along the Central Corridor and beyond.
