At the invitation of H.E. Dr. Samia S. Hassan at State House in Dodoma today, our Executive Secretary on behalf of CCTTFA had the privilege to witness the signing of three contracts between Tanzania and Dubai’s DP World for development of and operation of the Port of Dar es Salaam. These contracts are set to transform Dar port by enhancing its competitiveness, efficiency, and reliability in serving local and hinterland markets. Now, Berth no. 4 to 7 will be fully operated by DP World, and it is expected to reduce vessels waiting times from the current 5-10 days to just a single day, alleviate port congestion, boost revenue collections, facilitate the handling of approximately 130 vessels per month, up from the current 90, install modern port operating systems and open-up for vessel’s direct routes from Far East as the company owns a fleet of over 400 vessels and thus reduce freight costs and cutting down vessel journey times from 30 days to just 15.
Speaking on the event CCTTFA Executive Secretary Adv. OKANDJU OKONGE Flory said “It was pleasure for me to be involved and invited by Higher Authority of URT on this big event on behalf of the CCTTFA. I can assure you that URT make a big up for transforming our corridor into Sustainable and Competitive Trade Routes of Choice as DP World will explore the possibility to extend this investment in inter land and dry ports in purposes to serve all members states of CCTTFA.”
This momentous development marks a transformative phase for the Central Corridor as most of cargo to our seven member countries will go through the Port of Dar es Salaam.
