Today, 12 August 2026, the Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency (CCTTFA) and the Lake Tanganyika Authority (LTA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation in the sustainable development of transport and trade across the Lake Tanganyika Basin. The signing ceremony took place at the Central Corridor Secretariat in Dar es Salaam.
The MoU was signed by Adv. OKANDJU OKONGE Flory, Executive Secretary of CCTTFA, and Dr. LIWENGA EMMA TERESA, Executive Director of LTA, marking an important step towards closer institutional collaboration between the two organizations.
The partnership establishes a framework for joint action to promote the sustainable development of Lake Tanganyika’s transport sector through improved transport infrastructure, enhanced maritime safety and security, harmonized policies and regulations, environmental sustainability, and strengthened regional trade facilitation.
Importantly, the MoU complements and reinforces the ongoing efforts of the Governments of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to strengthen bilateral trade and improve transport and logistics connectivity through Lake Tanganyika and the Central Corridor. It provides an additional institutional framework to support coordinated interventions that will facilitate the efficient movement of goods and people, enhance maritime connectivity, and unlock the Lake’s potential as a strategic gateway for regional trade.
The cooperation will also cover navigation safety, capacity building, sustainable fisheries and fish value chains, as well as the development of joint studies, projects and programmes across the Lake Tanganyika Basin.
